On a recent visit to Hong Kong (October 2022), I was struck once again by the ubiquitous reflections in the windows of soaring skyscrapers and simple shops, creating the effect of moving through a densely populated hall of mirrors. Sometimes the reflections look like a portal into another world; sometimes the crumpled distortions create the apparency of an alternate universe operating under a different set of natural laws.

The whole adventure was like a metaphor for the way we see “through a glass darkly”, making sense of the world through the filters of our prior experience, moods and attitudes.
